Top Shelf has moved to 333 N. Washington

After 49 years Top Shelf is experiencing some big changes. We’ve moved into a newly appointed custom showroom in the North Loop at 333 N. Washington Ave, in the Union Plaza building.  We were invited into this space by Daniels Custom Clothing. The owner, Daniel Stensgard has been in business for 35 years.  He recently leased this new space in the North Loop and designed and built one of the most beautiful custom-only showrooms to grace the Twin Cities. The two seasoned veterans and their team are sharing the space as independent businesses in the North Loop, continuing  to provide the finest custom clothing experience available in the Midwest.

What does this mean for existing customers?

We’ll continue to accept orders from existing customers whose records we have carefully maintained from at least the last 10 years. Appointments for sales, fittings and deliveries are all taking place at the new location.  We’ll continue to operate our work room at our old location for a few months. Our workroom will soon be moved into the new location along with our staff of tailors. There are numerous metered parking spaces surrounding the building we’re in, but finding the location the first time has been challenging for clients not familiar with this area of the North Loop. However, we want our customers to enjoy free parking, and we’ll subtract your parking costs from your receipts. We recommend you use Maps or Waze and punch in the restaurant name Dario, whose front door faces our building, called Union Plaza. There are machines to pay that require your license plate number and then a credit card for 1-2 or 3 hour parking. The machines don’t take American Express 🙁 so if you have a problem just let us know when you come in and we’ll take care of it.

Why is this happening?

If you’re interested in what precipitated this move, please look for a new blog post which speaks to some of the reasons we are making the changes. This move is a positive change and one that came about quickly. We accepted a very fair offer to sell our building. It was time, and after 25 years it hasn’t been an easy task to move out. Sadly, online articles and newspaper articles have been been either totally inaccurate (no fact checking) or written from an angle suggesting that our business had fallen on hard times because of the demise of formal dress codes inside corporations.

A Word About Alteration Services

We stopped accepting retail alterations a few years ago and only accept work from our custom clientele. We’ve been referring clients for the last several years to alteration shops, such as Tailors on Blake in Hopkins and Sew Biz in downtown Minneapolis which are owned and operated by alumni of Top Shelf,  and have heard nothing except good things about them. There are a few other tailor shops we can also recommend.

We are very grateful for all the loyalty and support over the last 49 years.  It’s time for the next chapter!

The best way to reach someone during transition is to send an e-mail to John@TopShelfInc.com and he’ll respond as promptly as possible. We’re working strictly by appointments and not keeping set regular hours. We’ll try our best to accommodate your needs.

Sincerely,  John and Pat Meegan
